The FAFSA determines a student’s Estimated Family Contribution (EFC). However, Federal regulations provide for an appeal process, by which the 金融援助 Office 五月 adjust a student’s FAFSA data elements based on special circumsta生均 affecting household 资源. 这叫做 a Special Circumstance and is decided on a case-by-case 基础. Through this appeal, we will determine if the circumsta生均 you document will result in a change to aid eligibility. Documentation is required.

Student 必须 have a 2023-2024 Free Application for Federal Student 援助 (FAFSA) on file with this office before an appeal can be considered. Additionally, if the student’s file was selected for verification, this process 必须 be completed before an appeal can be considered.

Incomplete appeals will be returned for further information which will cause delays 在处理. In addition, please be aware that during our review other supplemental forms or documentation 五月 be requested. Only one appeal per academic year will be 允许.

这 appeal is to request an income adjustment to the student's federal student aid application based on special circumsta生均. A specialist will email your student email account with the appeal process instructions and assign the appeal in your MyBC financial aid portal.

• Loss or Reduction of untaxed income or benefit received with income reported on the FAFSA but not currently, such as: child support, untaxed pensions, or taxable Social Security Benefits
• Excessive non-reimbursed medical/dental expenses

• Death of Parent or Other Parent whose income was reported on the FAFSA

A specialist will email your student email account with the appeal process instructions and assign the appeal in your MyBC financial aid portal.

Make sure you are eligible to complete this dependency status appeal:

• documented determination of independence made by a financial aid administrator at another institution in the same or a prior academic year; or
• a copy of your Student 援助 Report (SAR) from the current or prior academic year.

这 process is for students who are unaccompanied homeless youth, or unaccompanied, at risk of homelessness, and self-supporting. A specialist will email your student email account with the appeal process instructions and assign the 任务 in your MyBC financial aid portal.

Acceptable documentation 五月 in表“关闭” a written statement on letterhead from:

• a local educational agency homeless liaison, as designated by the McKinney-Vento 首页less Assistance Act (42 U.S.C.11432(g)(1)(J)(ii)), or a designee of the liaison; or
• the director of an emergency or transitional shelter, street outreach program, homeless youth drop-in center, or other program serving individuals who are experiencing homelessness, or a designee of the director; or
• the director of a Federal TRIO program or a Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate program (GEARUP) grant, or a designee of the director; or
• a financial aid administrator at another institution who documented the student’s circumstance during the current or prior academic year.

为 students disqualified for exceeding SAP time frame criteria, and who wish to appeal to extend their eligibility. Deadline for submitting an appeal: November 30 for Fall; April 30 for Spring; July 夏天11岁.
